Alexis Farrell, 5th Period: Costa Rican sanctuary home to 700 stray dogs

Recently, a pooch paradise in Costa Rica hit 700 canine members! Initially, the intent for the shelter was to house a few elderly dogs but it turned into a no-kill shelter where hundreds of dogs are  constantly roaming around. The non-profit organization began eight years ago and the vast property is known as Territorio de Zaguates, or Land of Stray Dogs. Several of the dogs are mixed breed but the workers come up with new breed names for the canines. This sanctuary for dogs allows them to roam freely "playing their days out on the Costa Rican mountainside."

This article shows how caring humanity has become over the years. When Americans began to care about the environment, this sparked more of a loving attitude in the hearts of most of them. Although none of this has to do with dogs, it's important to know that the vast land that they roam on in protected because of the Environmental Protection Agency thanks to Richard Nixon.
