A magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck early Saturday in Japan's Kyushu island, the same region a 6.2 quake struck two days earlier. The latest quake struck just west-southwest of Kumamoto-shi and about 8 miles south-southeast of Ueki, the epicenter of the late Thursday tremor that left nine dead The U.S. Geological Survey reported. No question, this is a large and very important earthquake," said Doug Given, a geophysicist with the USGS. "And it will do a lot of damage." The latest tremor suggests that the one Thursday was a foreshock, though USGS expert cautioned "that's not to say that the Earth can't produce a bigger earthquake still to follow."

This is such a horrible situation. I can't even imagine what these people are going through. We'll definitely be keeping them in our thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Homsher 9th- I hope the Japanese people are able to recover from this, especially because it follows only a few years after the earthquake in 2011.
