Super Tuesday and Its
Importance
Super
Tuesday is one of the most important days in politics when it comes to electing
a new president. Each states holds
delegates that are the deciding factor in how the president of the United
States is chosen. This works for both
Republican and Democratic candidates.
The magic winning number of delegates for the Republican nomination is
1,237 and for the Democratic nomination it is 2,383. These delegates are divided up according to
how the candidates pull votes in a particular state. This system was set up in 1984 and is an ode
to the Southeastern Conference, which is an athletic conference that includes
universities in most of the Southern states holding their voting on
Tuesdays. Most of the heavy hitting
southern states include Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee and of course
Texas. This has created the nickname
“SEC” for Super Tuesday. These Southern
states carry a lot of delegates that both parties need and each candidate wants
to help further their bid for the White House.
Analysis:
Talal Al-Khatib, is the author of this article and she
demonstrates a vast knowledge of how Super Tuesday is important and why. She really wants readers to understand that
in history, Super Tuesday has normally played a vital role in setting the stage
for the winner of the office of President of the United States.
I find the authors name and nationality ironic, as she is of
far eastern descent. Her name suggests
that she might be Iranian, Iraqi, or even Pakistani. How strange that a foreigner from one of the
countries that we are fighting with and as a country have such a great amount
of hate for would write an article that has so much to do with our political
system. I hold out the hope that she knows
so much and wants to express her knowledge because she is hopeful that her
country will read it and start the movement to have a democracy with
elections. Maybe she craves what we as
Americans take for granted. Maybe more
Americans should invest a little more time and thought into how our democracy
of voting is handled and what all is involved.

Our democracy is so important, and we as Americans need to value the opportunity we have to provide some consent on who governs our country.
