The Shooting of Walter Scott (Lauren Kuehmeier, period, 2)
On April 5 police officer- Michael Slager-shot and killed unarmed and non threatening civilian, Walter Scott. Scott ran away and this began the chase but was then tragically shot in the back 8 times by police officer Slager. Though Slager tried to claim Scott had grabbed the stun gun of the officer, a video on a cell phone was recovered and it captured the scene honestly. The shooting was obviously unwarranted even though officer Slager tried to lie that it was and more importantly it was murder.
There is no justification for a police officer to kill the civilians he or she should be protecting in such a situation where the defendant is unarmed and non threatening, yet these occurrences are too often and the punishments too small. These are lives being taken and it shouldn't matter what uniform you wear when killing someone. Murder is murder, there is no excuse and no justification, with whatever minuscule dignity this man has I hope he can just take his punishment without question. Too often are these murderers not meeting their punishment because of the backing of the police force, I hope this case will be handled better.

Police limits need to be set in the US due to the recent media outbreak involving police. Quentin Noble P2
ReplyDeleteThis should not even be called a "police shooting" just a police murder. This is sick. It is pretty obvious to me that we should probably pay closer attention to our law enforcement officers.
