Siobhan O'Dell recently received a rejection letter from Duke University, so she decided to give them a taste of her own medicine. O'Dell felt she should send Duke University a rejection letter in reply to their rejection letter. She says things in the letter such as "After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me admission..." and "Despite Duke's outstanding success in rejecting previous applicants, you simply did not meet my qualifications." and etc. Although O'Dell was not accepted into her first choice, she says she will happily be attending the University of South Carolina.
While it's disapointing that Siobhan didn't get into the college she wanted to, I think it is very impressive that she sent a letter back to Duke that allowed her to have the last say. Applying to colleges is one of the most stressful and nerve-racking things you do, and I think it would be an interesting concept if, like O'Dell, more students were to put the last word in after all the effort they put towards applications.

“I would always rather be happy than dignified.” - Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre. This can apply to standing up for oneself and ultimately bringing pleasure to oneself in the end.
