Smartphone Can Possibly Diagnose Cancer (Juliana Cortez 3rd)
Since this past Monday, US researchers have started discussing a new device that can be added to our smartphones that can and will possibly accurately diagnose cancer. This new added on device, known as D3, is to only be used by medical experts and not the public use. D3 stands for digital diffraction diagnosis, and the system includes an
imaging module with a battery-powered LED light clipped onto a standard
smartphone that records high-resolution imaging data with its camera. The process of the new device involves the addition of micro beads to a sample of blood. The micro beads connect to known
cancer-related molecules, then the sample is loaded onto the D3 imaging
module. That data is then sent quickly via a secure and encrypted cloud service to a processing server. The presence of specific molecules, which show if cancer is present, are detected by analyzing the diffraction patterns generated by the micro beads. Results can be returned to the doctor in minutes or hours instead of days and weeks. Of course before the device is announced as effective there will need to be more test conducted. Researches say that they expect the device to will break down many barriers in cancer diagnosis.

I think that's amazing and the advancement in technology has really gone far. I hope it continues to advance and maybe we'll be able to even prevent cancer from happening.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the tests will show that this is an effective product, because it would be amazing to be able to release this to the public.
ReplyDeleteWow! This technology could definitely help a lot of people, like the discovery of the polio vaccine during the 20th Century. The handiness of attaching it to an iPhone will help make incredible bounds in the fight against cancer.
