Miley Cyrus - Annabel Puff (1st)

With her new album Bangerz at the top of iTunes in 70 different countries, Miley Cyrus has successfully turned her entire "Disney image" around for the better. Though most people believe this transformation occurred very rapidly and very recently, Miley has always strayed from the cookie-cutter Disney star appearance.  Slowly but surely, Miley has shed every last bit of her attached to her previous Hannah Montana alter ego and become a hip hop star for an adult audience. According to Josh Eells, a recent interviewer, she started the process at age 17 whilst filming the movie LOL in Detroit. It was the first time she'd been on her own without parental guidance or Disney guidance. She was living on her own in Detroit and able to experience new things without being under contract with Disney. Then, in 2012, she gained major attention for cutting all her hair off and bleaching it to a platinum blonde. In a way, cutting her hair also cut every and all ties to her Hannah Montana-child stardom. Although many people think she's actually gone completely insane, clever Miley is actually just giving everyone what they want. And she's having fun doing it.
I've always been a huge fan of Miley. Ironically at first, but then gradually my fake love grew into a real fandom. I think that currently, Miley is just finally expressing herself as who she really is. Everything she does she knows she will receive hate for it but she does it anyways because it's what she wants to do. Her VMA performance for example; everyone hated it. Not only did everyone hate it, but everyone LOVED to hate it. She received so much bad press and so many negative remarks about it but she doesn't regret her performance at all. She wouldn't change it if she could. And personally, I loved her VMA performance. Go Miley. Do your thang girl.

  1. I completely agree that she has shed her former Hannah Montana Disney image and that it wasn't as rapid as everyone says it is, however I do feel that it is a little too much too soon. She isn't posted pictures of her doing drugs or anything majorly illegal, which is more taste than many celebrities now, but is humping a wrecking ball naked for the whole world to see, including the little girls who admired her as Hannah Montana, really necessary? About your point that she is giving the press and media exactly what they want, I couldn't agree more. Who cares if this is really her now or not? She has over 100 million hits on YouTube and on the cover of almost every tabloid magazine. She is as, if not more, successful than she was as Hannah.

  2. Miley is still a role model for kids that watched her on Hannah Montana growing up- she is showing all of us that it's okay to be who you want to be, no matter what people say. She may think that she has shed her Disney image, but in reality she is still someone that people look up to, and isn't that what Disney is all about?

  3. Oh my gosh thank you so much for this. I can't really say I'm a fan, her music style isn't at all my thing, but I think it's great that she's finally doing what she sees fit, rather than what Disney thinks is selling at the moment. As far as the big twerking debacle, if I were a more aggressive person by nature I would probably shout passionately at people I hear talking about it because let's be real, you guys are upset because she's a woman who did something rather sexual on stage. No one talks about Robin Thicke though. Wheee misogynist cultures! Hush up c: I also adore the fact that she doesn't apologize for the incident or the woman that she has grown to be, why should she?

  4. I agree with this very much. Even though I'm not a huge fan of her, I definitely think there's a lot that can be embraced of her new care-free account.

  5. While its a good thing that shes trying to set her own image and not that of a Disney one, I believe shes going at wrong. Her attempts are a little too strong and if she is trying to avoid all the negative feedback, perhaps she should change up her ideas.

  6. I'm not a huge fan of the new Miley but I do appreciate her being herself and having the confidence to do what she wants, even if people do hate it. So many people can hardly stand her, however, those haters are giving her the attention that is making her so popular. Even if this isn't Miley's true personality, it was smart on her part because whatever she is doing is working for her, considering that she's making millions.

  8. I completely agree. I think her new "identity" is such a big deal because of the person she used to be-- a role model for young girls as Hannah Montana. What people do not realize is that Miley is a 20 year old girl who is just growing up; no different than anyone else. She is getting to be the artist she wants to be and society should let her without the harsh judgment thrown at her.
