Lemack, Ilana 'I'm the original voice of Siri'

Since October 4, 2011, when siri first debuted a woman named Susan Bennett has claimed to be the voice behind siri. Although Apple has never identified her all signs indicate that the original voice of Siri in the United States is a voiceover actor who laid down recordings for a client eight years ago. She had no idea she'd someday be speaking to more than 100 million people. Susan Bennett lives in Atlanta. Apple has yet to confirm that Bennett is indeed Siri, but an audio-forensics expert with 30 years of experience has studied both voices and says he is "100%" certain the two are the same. With a new Apple mobile operating system, iOS 7, with new Siri voices means that Bennett's reign as the American Siri is slowly coming to an end. Last month, a website a video claiming that a woman named Allison Duffy is the voice of siri. Duffy denied this accusation. Bennett kept her identity as siri a secret for a long time, but after the accusation of Duffy's voice being siri, she decided to come clean.

I think this is an interesting story because, to be honest I've never really thought about the fact that there is a voice behind the famous, siri. I didn't know that her identity was kept secret and I don't really understand why it was. I also think it is strange that she did not know that her voice would end up being one of the most recognized voices around the world when she recorded this 5 years ago. Now that the voice of siri has changed and Bennett will become less famous, I wonder if she regrets keeping her identity a secret for 2 years.

  1. Byron Otis-I don't understand why she kept her identity secret as well! I would think that with her voice being used around the world, in commercials, and so many other things, she could rake in the cash with this, but I suppose there are circumstances of which we are not aware.
