On Thursday afternoon, a mentally deranged woman from Connecticut drove to Washington, D.C. and instigated a car chase by the police after she attempted to "breach a barrier at the White House" and purposefully ran into two police cars. At one point of the chase, she was completely cornered by police; but she found a way to evade them and continued to flee until she was ceased and shot down at Capitol Hill.
A man named Tom Ruskin, former New York Police Department detective and president of the CMP group, analyzed the event and asserted that the police handled the situation very well; considering the fact that the police had no way of knowing the woman's intentions nor what harm she was capable of causing to nearby people and cars at that time. "'You didn’t know if this woman had a bomb in the car; you only knew she had hit two police officers,' said Ruskin."
An even stranger, more shocking aspect of this incident is that the woman had an 18-month old child in the backseat of the vehicle. Thankfully, the girl was unharmed and was taken into protective custody afterwards. The police reported that they either did not see the child or were too concerned with capturing the driver during the chaotic chase to take note of the toddler in the back seat.
Investigations have been carried out since the day of the incident in order to discover the causes of her actions and what mental disease(s) she had.
I am perplexed by this incident and am curious to find out what mental conditions brought about this odd, frightening behaviour. I'm also curious about the woman's and child's identities - it might be possible that the child did not belong to the woman, in which case this story would become even more interesting. These kinds of stories always give me adrenaline and chills at the same time. They make for an interesting story, but it scares me a bit to think that there could be people with these same mental conditions runnning around out there and nobody would even know!
