Infant remains found in New York river believed to be those of missing boy - Alix Kast

Remains of an infant were found in an upstate New York river. Police think that they could be the remains of a 10 month old who had been missing since June. The father took two weeks to report the disappearance of his son. Additionally, the child's father was accused of breaking into a home in order to steal valuable items. The police received some sort of tip to look in the area where the boy was found, but they wouldn't reveal who the tip was from.  The father said that he went on a walk at night with his child but locked himself out of his house. He then put his son on the ground and walked around, looking for another way in. But when he came back, the baby was gone.  Autopsies of children can take longer so it may be some time before a cause of death is decided on, and the river probably damaged the body as well.

I had read a little about this story beforehand. It's tragic and hopefully the killer will be brought to justice. Unlike an adult or a child, a baby can't just wander off on their own, and even if it was nighttime and difficult to see, it's hard to imagine not being able to find a baby that would only just be beginning to learn to walk. Plus, a caring parent would be frantic and panicking if their child was gone, and they would have reported his disappearance as soon as possible- not two weeks later. With the way the body was found, it seems almost impossible that this was some sort of accident. But, maybe the father accidentally killed his child, and tried to cover it up. In my opinion, his story sounds extremely suspicious. I think it's very likely that the father is the culprit in this case.

  1. I think it so terrible that a father thought it was alright to put his son on the ground and left him. I don't understand how people try to justify putting their children in harm's way after something has happened to the child. As a baby being totally defenseless you would think he would have taken extra special care to keep the baby safe especially late at night in the dark. The story is so sad that I don't really need any other alledged suspicious behavior regarding the father.

Having children is the biggest responsibility anyone can have. I wish people took it more seriously and treated the responsibility with more care so stories like this would not happen as often as they do now.

  2. There are three possibilities:

    a) The father is the culprit.

    b) The father was blackmailed into not revealing the death (unlikely).

    c) The father was ashamed, and acted as a coward.

Whatever the case may be, you don't report your child missing two weeks after it happened. It makes me think he was on some kind of drug or substance to not be aware that he needs to take his case to the police.

Where's the mother figure in this family? Very sad.

  4. I agree with Sunny there are similar stories that happen everyday so what makes this one so much more different. It is extremely suspicious and I'm not sure which side I should agree to. Crazy story!

  5. This story is so sad! It pains me to read about babies being killed. It makes it even worse that the father didn't report it for two weeks. What is the world coming to...
