Dozens of the victims from the bombing at the Boston Marathon were given the opportunity to go out to Harvard and learn how to run, or run better, with their new prosthetic legs. Usually burdened with heavy "everyday" prosthetic legs, these runners are beginning to have carbon-filled blades donated to them by the Knights of Columbus. Trying to get back the same normalcy that they had with two legs has been a struggle for many of the victims, but many different companies have been reaching out and donating both prosthesis and training camps to help them get back some of the things that the tragedy took away from them.
This is just one of the most amazing things: to see these people who lost a huge part of their life, and probably thought that they'd never walk again much less run, to regain that ability and triumph. It's a beautiful concept and for it to actually be accomplished is extraordinary. I have so much respect and appreciation for those who are making the effort to overcome what this awful event took away, they are the example for what we can still do even when we think everything's gone.

That's amazing, it's nice to hear something good can come to these people after such a tragic event.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that these people are getting back into running after such a terrible event. It's really inspiring to see them begin running again especially after all of the obstacles they've had to overcome.
ReplyDeleteThis is so heartwarming and tragic to think of the fact that they lost the ability of doing something they love, but im glad they can have this new opportunity to get back into running. Also this shows the advances with technology and prosthetics and how we can design new limbs to do amazing things. Like the olympian with the metal prosthetic legs!!
ReplyDeleteStories and articles like this always helps restore faith on this planet. It's very kind and heartwarming for these people to be given another chance at a great opportunity.
