"Banksy sells original art for $60 in Central Park" - Emily Gray, 5th period

Summary: Banksy, a British street artist, currently lives in New York. Banksy set up a vendor in the bustling city of New York City and prices his work for a very low discounted price of 60 dollars, where originally they would cost tens of thousands of dollars. They total sales of the day was $420.

Analysis: This article was written by Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News. It was written on October 14, 2013. The main audience for this article is the general public. The main purpose of this article was to inform people how well they know art. If you watch the video first you would just assume it is a vendor trying to sell overpriced art ( that was my expression anyways). I did not recognize it to be famous artwork because I am not familiar with British work. I think the reason why Banksy did these things is because he wanted to know how known he was in the world. My other opinion is that he wanted to give a chance to the not so rich people and give them an opportunity to have a piece of his art work.

  1. I understand his stance and reasoning however I would not have done it myself.

  2. I agree that the artist used that kind of opportunity as a social experiment and marketing ploy.

  3. This was a really interesting social experiment. However, it kinda feels like he's playing a joke on us. That, or he doesn't really care about money.

  4. I've heard a little about this artist, and this "experiment" as well. I think it was an interesting thing to test on people. From the video, I can actually recognize a few pieces that are similar to ones he has done in the past, but if you were unfamiliar with his work then he would just seem like a normal man selling his artwork.
