An unusual creature was found on a California beach, and even its name sounds like something out of science fiction: it was a saber-toothed whale. Its appearance is much less unnerving than its name might suggest, although its size is definitely impressive. These creatures usually live in deep waters near Alaska, so the fact that it was so far from its natural habitat is pretty surprising. The body was examined, and there was no sign of disease, parasites, or trauma. Another deep sea-dwelling creature, an oarfish, was found three days earlier on a different part of the California coastline. Scientists are unsure if the beachings are connected somehow or if they were merely a coincidence.
There are all sort of unusual life forms that live in the deepest parts of the world's oceans. We would probably never come across them if those parts of the sea were not researched and explored. Or, if bodies did not occasionally wash up on shore. It's sad that this interesting animal died, and I hope that there will not be more cases. It was my understanding that scientists intended to use the body to find out more about this species, or even how it came to be in the waters of California.

This is so strange that an animal, who's natural habitat is Alaska, was found on the California coast! I agree that it is sad that this unique creature died and i also hope that more dead creatures don't turn up.- NIa Edwards 4th
ReplyDeleteThats Crazy! We find more and more strange creatures now-a-days that have mated and made more weird animals. Interesting how our world works!
ReplyDeleteIt's so weird to think that there is still so much of this world that we don't know about and can't even begin to imagine.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I support space exploration, I find it amusing that we have launched the Mars Probe into space but we are still surprised by what is still right here on our home planet. I am still waiting for the official discovery of the Loch Ness Monster.
