At last, after 16 days of shutdown, the government has reopened. The agreement reached between Congress and the Senate raised the debt ceiling, already at $16 trillion, and is bringing back hundreds of thousands of workers. The deal was ratified 81 to 18 last night, and Obama signed the bill at midnight. Countless monuments, museums, and other government services have been reopened. “There are no winners here,” said President Obama late this morning. “These last few weeks have inflicted completely unnecessary damage on our economy.”

I am personally relieved that the government has reopened. It's funny to think that when a bunch of old white dudes couldn't decide what to do that they just shut down an entire government, and it's embarrassing to think, "Hey, that's us!" Still, I'm glad Obamacare is finally being put into effect. (My mom doesn't have health insurance, so she'll finally be able to get it.)
I also am glad that the government has reopened. Now people can stop talking about it! Its good that Obamacare is finally being put into effect and I hope it all works out. -Nia Edwards 4th period
ReplyDeleteI agree. I'm honestly tired of hearing about it. I'm curious to see the development of Obamacare.

ReplyDeleteWell, it's about time. I'm glad that now every citizen can receive health insurance. Congress needs to get rid of their egos and work together for the bettering of the country, regardless of political parties.
