$100 Bills Get a Security Facelift- Umair Nasser

There are some very new changes coming to the $100 bill this week. All newly printed bills will have "raised printing," which is a distinctive feeling across the entire bill. A dashed blue strip will be included on the right side of the front face, along with a new icon, that contains a color shifting bell within it. On the back, there will now be a big gold 100 printed vertically on the right edge of the bill. Two more features on the back include, a newly simplified watermark, and microprinting.

It is refreshing that the Federal Reserve is still doing new things to prevent the possibility of counterfeit  currency. Every time they change a new bill, it's also fun to see the old ones in contrast with the new ones, and some become collectables. Right now, there’s probably $70
million in fake U.S. legal tender out there. All of these new features may take a little getting used to, but they’re ultimately for our own good. Every counterfeit bill out there devalues real U.S. currency, and this is one form of inflation we can avoid.

  1. Everyone kind of forgets about counterfeit or it isn't a huge major crime that you hear about all over the news and in the paper and everything so I really appreciate you bringing it to light. It's nice to hear that the government is working on something to prevent crimes.

  2. It's nice to see the government printing more money. Shame that the economy is still so messed up though. But hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

  3. The new interface for the $100 bill should help counter the counterfeit money better than before. Some have never even seen a $100 bill in person before (cough cough), making this all the more new and interesting. It'll be interesting for anyone to witness a criminal using counterfeit $100 bills now.
