America's Airplane Security- Flawed? Ashley Barnes 2nd Period

A 9 year old boy recently was able to get past security and ride on a Delta Airplane by himself. He traveled over a thousand miles to Las Vegas alone. Flight attendants became suspicious of him being so young and alone, so they handed him over to Child Services.

This article was quite startling to read. Ever since 9/11, Airline security has always been extremely strict and very careful. Its amazing that a little kid was able to manage getting past multiple points of security before finally being noticed. I understand that no system is perfect, and that this child wasn't a danger to anyone on the airplane. However, I think Delta should handle this incident very seriously; if a young child can manage to slip through the cracks of security, someone else can too. I know a lot of people feel as though the security systems are incredibly time consuming and annoying, but it is crucial that Airline centers make sure that all people are protected and safe on an airplane. It's very fortunate that this child was noticed before he was allowed to wander in Las Vegas.

  1. When i was little, i was terrified of flying by myself. Im still a little uneasy about it and it makes me wonder if that kid really knew what he was doing and how serious it was. But obviously it wasn't an accident but I don't understand why he would want to.
