Battle for Syria's Kobani intensifies; ISIS takes Iraq base- Joseph Katinas
The battle for a key city in Syria on the border of Turkey intensified today as ISIS continued its push for its grasp of the city of Kobani while also winning a victory in Iraq which neighbors it, taking a military base strategically important located in Anbar province.
A fighter from the Kurdish People's Protection Unit, or YPG, told CNN's Arwa Damon that the battle in Kobani concerned the main border crossing into Turkey. If ISIS is able to take control, he said, "it's over."
The fighter said the Kurdish fighters had previously pushed back an attempted advance by ISIS this morning but that it would be "impossible" for them to actually hold their ground if current conditions continued there.
If they take Kobani, the militants would control three official border crossings between Syria and Turkey and a part of the border about 60 miles or 97 kilometers long.
Today has been one of the most violent days in Kobani since ISIS launched its assault on the Syrian city, with sounds of harsh fighting, including explosions and gunfire, CNN staff on the Turkey-Syria border said.
I find this article pretty frightening. This may be the turning point in the war with ISIS right now. Hopefully it's not. But thinking of it as a turning point makes me think of Saratoga and Gettysburg and other U.S. wars with a turning point battle. All I can say is that eventually ISIS will go down with, sadly, some rough conflict but I still hope for the day when we can all live in peace.

The Kurds are tough and know how to put up a good fight, and, while they are being overrun, I doubt the US will sit by and allow them to fall completely.
