African Boys Attacked at Bronx School, Called "Ebola": Advocacy Group - Jack VanGorden 4th per.

In the Bronx this week, two African 11- and 13-year-old boys were attacked at their school, 1.2. 318. Recently immigrated from Senegal, the brothers had been taunted and called "Ebola". They were reportedly, "pummeled by other students in the schoolyard during lunch after enduring weeks of taunts." Their father, Ousame Drame, said that his sons, "have been cruelly harassed for two weeks over Ebola". Their peers were told by other students to stay away from the boys. Surprisingly, Drame doesn't blame the attackers but the school system. He feels like they didn't do enough to protect his children. Even though the boys are recovering from the attack, their father plans on sending them back to school as long as the administrators will ensure their safety.

It makes me sick to imagine how these boys must feel about themselves. They were physically assaulted because of the current negative connotation of their heritage. This isn't the first story I've heard of the African community being discriminated against because of Ebola, it's happening in Dallas too, but I do hope it is the last.

  1. Wow, that's so awful for them to do. I defiantly think it's the systems fault for not stopping it right away.

  2. It's apparent that ignorance is still a major issue in this country. I hope the school does something about the comments.

  3. This is like Pearl Harbor all over again. Due to their race these boys were attacked and bullied just like Asians were after Pearl Harbor. The school needs to take action and stop this mistreatment.
