"Fewer Births, More Deaths"-Gracie Zytynski

In an article by the New York Times on December 19, 2018, Sabrina Tavernise writes about how the United States population has slowly been decreasing. According to the article, the US is at the slowest growing pace in more than eight decades. The past year there has been an average of 2.81 million deaths and if this continues, immigrants will be very important to the United States' population. With this many deaths, the U.S has passed the slowest growth rate at 0.62 percent, occurring during the Great Depression. This article is very important because it informs U.S citizens of how the U.S population is slowing decreasing and immigrants will be important to our country. This connects to the Great Depression because during this period the US. faced a severe slow population growth rate. This is also the opposite of the Gilded Age because during the Gilded Age the U.S experienced a major population growth.
