bullfighting is latest battleground in spanish politics - will goodell
https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/12/europe/bullfighting-spain-politics-scli-intl/index.html
bullfighting is a tradition in spanish culture that has existed for many years, a ritual that is apart of spain's cultural mosaic and one that has been immortalized through art. professional bullfighting and other bull running events remain popular in the summertime in spain, however with the growing politicalization of the sport and recent developments the sport is now under mass scrutiny. bullfighing has been a topic of debate just recently among spanish politicians, on the far right many are fighting to keep the tradition going, where as on the left, many people are working hand in hand with animal rights campaigners to have the tradition banned. many in spain say politicians are using bullfighting as apart of their platform and mainly to appeal to an older generation that grew up with bull fights. this ongoing conflict reminds me of the north vs the south and the fight for slavery because there are two clear sides arguing for and against something that is violent but also a "tradition" and a part of their culture.
