In communications, Trump directed Michael to lie and claim that Trump had no ties to Russia despite plans in the works for a new Trump building located in Moscow. His children Ivanka and Donald jr were also apparently in on it and receiving regular updates. This is entirely unsurprising to me. I'm not happy about it either. If out president is willing to lie about this, who knows what else he is willing to lie about or what he already has? However, this leaves me the complete opposite of shocked because this isn't exactly the first time he's been caught in a boldfaced lie. It's also not exactly the first example of a politician lying. It was one of the defining features of the gilded age. Politicians were notoriously corrupt, trading favors for votes and collecting bribes. President Grant even mirrors Trump in how utterly unprepared they both were. However, at least I can say Grant faught against white supremacy unlike our current president.
