Thank goodness his grandmother contacted the authorities. It's good that she could see past her own priorities and do something to help the whole of society by turning her grandson in.

Problems surrounding mental health, gun laws, and drug abuse can have great impacts on people, both those going through stuff and those close to them. If he had gotten help, maybe this event wouldn't have happened.
