This week, 21 year old Dakota Theriot killed 5 people in Louisiana , including members of his own family. He escaped the police and was last seen driving away in a dodge pickup truck. Police soon went to his families home in Virginia, where they suspected he might go to after being on the run. They predicted this correctly, as he pulled up the next day to the home with a gun pointed out the window, As soon as the officers saw him, he put the gun down and was arrested.
I think this is another convincing story as to why we need better gun control laws. If someone is seen as dangerous, and has previously committed a crime, they shouldn't be granted the right (2nd Amendment) to bear arms. Murder rates would be far less high if people like Theroit weren't supplied with dangerous weapons to carry out their malicious goals. Gun control in this country needs to be reformed, and although is has been a right to own guns since the 18th century, when the original amendment was written, society was very different. Todays guns are more deadly, and although we can choose to own guns, the buying, selling and types of guns you can buy needs to be regulated and approached from a reasonable standpoint.
