Lesly Marquez- GM responds to backlash after racism allegations

Summary:

This article basically informs us about the General Motors company and work environment for their employees. Two African American employees at General Motors recently complained and sued the company for having a racist environment. They said their was signs written on the restrooms that said "whites only", their was five different locations in the building that had nooses hanging as a threat for them to leave, and they were often called names like boy ,monkey, or even Dan which at first they thought was a nickname their coworkers had given them because they had forgotten their names but Dan was a code word that meant "dumb a** n*****". They often got threats and were bullied so therefore complained to the supervisors and company but they said they never actually did anything. They would just tell them it was an over reaction and to try to get along with their fellow coworkers. The company responded to all of this saying they didn't tolerate racist behavior, that they would do something about it, and that they wanted a safe work place for everyone but never actually did anything to solve the problem or what they did do didnt have much effect.

Analysis:

This would be hard to believe if it were uncommon but its 2019 and racist issues like this are still very common which really disturbs me because it shouldn't be that way. The color of our skin shouldn't matter ! We are all equal. America is known for its diversity is cultural backgrounds so why do we still continue to do things like this? America wouldn't be America without people of color and different backgrounds. We shouldn't tolerate acts of racism or hate our neighbors but instead stand up and speak out together.
