The editorial board of the NY Times discusses the effects of Theater Shooter James Holmes' massacre. Many states have been passing bills regarding the purchase of military grade weapons.
This goes back to the 2nd amendment, which states that we should have the right to bear arms with the intention that should the government become draconian the people could force them into submission. However many people today feel it is not ok for people to have access to military grade weapons. They say that it only allows people to act out and hurt others and the intent of the amendment is lost now since we can not allow citizens to have grenades or other military grade weapons, so why guns?
