What's So Bad About Drawing Mohammed by Yasmine B (5th pd)

Many people are still confused about why such a big deal was made over drawing the prophet Mohammed when we can hang pictures of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary wherever we desire. In this article, CNN explains why many Muslims condemn visualizations of Mohammed and how people improvise when the Prophet just absolutely has to be depicted.
Around the time the Prophet Mohammed was alive, he came across many people who have been worshiping animals, statues, and other inanimate objects as if they controlled every aspect about their life. He also noticed how Christians would pray to God in front of a picture of Him or in front of a statue of the Virgin Mary, which led Mohammed to believe that them, too were worshiping inanimate objects. This is when he expressed to his followers how he did not believe in making visual representations of a higher being to pray to because to him, the more people started using pictures and statues the more people began to worship those rather than the higher being they represented. There is nothing in the Quran that specifically bans the depicting of Mohammed or any of the other prophets (like Jesus or Moses) but the prophet was strongly against it, which is why many Muslims are against it today.
I think it is important to learn about different religions and cultures because of the country we live in. Our country has a long history of having open borders to everyone because of the high level of tolerance we have developed over the years. The ethnic makeup of this country is among one of the most diverse in the whole world and we should embrace that by learning about each other's religion and culture.
