Police to announce findings on UVA gang rape reported by Rolling Stone - Jack VanGorden 4th per.

After Rolling Stone published a story of an alleged gang rape of a female student at UVA five months ago, police began an investigation and will announce their findings on Monday afternoon. The story caused controversy, not only at UVA, but across America. The victim, called "Jackie", was supposedly assaulted by seven men in a dark room at a frat party. After the report, people began to debate about rape on college campuses and many were so perplexed that something like what happened to Jackie was going on without punishment. While most people supported Jackie, others questioned her story and pointed out the discrepancies. Rolling Stone made a statement that the reason they didn't interview the alleged attackers is because they didn't want Jackie to feel like the editors were going against her.

Regardless of whether the story reveals to be accurate or not, something needs to be done so that college women feel protected on campus. The ugly truth is that many universities cover up rape cases so that their statistics show that they are a safe campus and students continue to attend. I applaud Rolling Stone for publishing this story because I'm sure they knew it would cause a lot of controversy but they genuinely wanted to do what was right.
