On May 20, the senate approved a plan for veterans to receive information discussing the pros and cons of medical marijuana. Senator Steve Daines created this idea because of the importance for veterans to know all of their options, especially for those coming back with a limb or two short and with severe PTSD. The new bill says that the Department of Veterans Affairs' doctors could only discuss the pros and cons of using medical marijuana but it would still be illegal for them to actually prescribe this to any veteran. Daines said veterans should be able to "talk openly and freely with their doctor about all options available to them."
Ever since the drug counter-culture developed in the mid to late 1900s, many Americans have completely changed their stance on the use of recreational drugs. Although marijuana is a legitimate drug that is used in many states as a medicine , many are still skeptical about using it medically because of its reputation. I think that it is important to keep our minds open about this and other situations because we could be ignoring a great resource due to our set ways and tunnel vision.
