Fire at New York Nuclear Power Plant by Corran Nolan

A transformer caught fire at the Indian Point nuclear power plant in New York on Sunday. Though called a "relatively minor" incident by New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo, a company spokesperson assured the media that the incident was taken very seriously. The fire started on the non-nuclear reactor side of the plant and was put out by both sprinkler systems and personal in less that half an hour, though it caused an explosion which sent smoke into the air for a large area around the plant No one was injured, and one of the reactors shut down immediately.

This incident shows just how far energy production and safety has come. Back in the days of Tesla and Edison, during the famous "Electricity Wars," one of the biggest issue was the safety of the electric current, between AC and DC. There were many electric fires and other problems caused during the production and transportation of energy. Now, even with one of the most dangerous production methods, nuclear reaction, there can be both a fire and and explosion, and nothing is seriously damaged.
