At the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in New York, a faulty transformer resulted in a fire. Thankfully there were no casualties, and the fire didn't disrupt the reactor core, and instead was hastily put out. The fire was actually a safe distance from the reactor building, and with all of the protocols and safety measures working properly, the event turned out a lot better than it could have. So although they're still investigating the cause of the fire, the incident didn't result in any harm done, to people or the environment, which marks an improvement in nuclear technology as an incident such as Chernobyl was avoided.
The Three Mile Island incident was also something that could have happened here, and in an area such as New York State, the effects could have been devastating. This really proves to show just how far technology has come since then, thankfully.

I think that safety has come a long way throughout history. I remember the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire was the worst and luckily, we were able to learn from that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jazmin because of technology larger incidents do not happen.
