The Hattiesburg community set a vigil on Monday for two officers shot at a traffic stop. The two officers were taken to the hospital but did not survive after the shooting. Currently there are four suspects, two of which have been charged with several accounts and felonies. However, the incident hit the town hard. They hadn't lost an officer in the line of duty for the past thirty years, and the fact that one of the officers shot and killed was only 24, straight out of the police academy, did not make matters better, for neither his family nor the community.
This is especially relevant to several other news events as of late. Often those events are of police brutality and everything that's been going on in Baltimore, however that isn't the case here. It's something that shows that not all police are that forceful or violent which is sadly a rarity nowadays.
