Soldiers' Camoflauge Steps Up- by Rachel Devine (6th)

Researchers at the University of California Irvine have recently started to uncover a breakthrough for camoflauge on the battle field. They are trying to use squid cells that contain a unique light-reflecting protein, called reflectin, to create "invisibility stickers" for ground troops. These stickers, while far from being ready to be put into use, would essentially allow soldiers to avoid infrared detection.

I think this little article is really interesting. If scientists can find a way to get these "stickers" to be successful, it will prevent thousands of military men from being seen and therefore save tons of lives. The concept of invisibility seems impossible, but hopefully it will all work out.

  1. It is so interesting to see where science takes us, especially on the battle field. Just as the discovery of slipping an atom lead to the creation of nuclear warfare.
