Protesters in New York gather against Police Violence (Juliana Cortez Pd.3)
Recently there has many new fresh cases on police officers being violent against helpless men, specifically African American men. About 250 placard-bearing activists organized and gathered at Union Square in Manhattan to march across the Brooklyn Bridge and protest the latest
incidents of violent police tactics used against minorities. At the least 12 people, some who are still students, we arrested after fighting against the police officers. Protesters have blocked several highway and interstates which led to more than two dozen arrest, they were caring signs that read "Stop Killer Cops" and "Stop murder by police" and hoped that this would cause a national discussion over the issue. The protest was organized following the shooting of Walter Scott, an unarmed black man shoot by a white officer, on April 4th. Police reported that a fellow New York officer, who wasn't in uniform at the time, was left with bruises on his head and arms after being hit by protesters as he was exiting his vehicle. Last year protesters were outraged with the numerous of cases, seeming to happen one after another, involving the death of black men because of white police officers. However, the outrage following the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson caused a standstill of the winter in New York. Another group of protestors have embarked on a 250-mile trek from New York to Washington.

I think police rights need to be established. Quentin Noble P2
ReplyDeleteThe overwhelming amount of cases piling up where police are injuring and killing citizens is overwhelming, it's good to see citizens standing up for one another no matter what the cost is.
