Inequality In Pay- Lauren Kuehmeier, Period 2

This election it has become of the utmost importance that Americans all get equal pay.  Despite that legislation and labor laws enacted since, the earnings gap between American men and women remains wide, and this  difference needs to be diminished. This cause is important because it isn't fair that female employees are paid only 78 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. In the upcoming election, there are candidates who care for this cause and others who don't. It is important to know the difference if you want to put an end to this inequality. It is also important to know this inequality does not just exist with women but in other minorities as well.

“Today’s older women didn’t have the same opportunities when they were younger that some of today’s younger women have in terms of the careers that were open to them,” Robbins says. “Some groups of women in the U.S., particularly Latinas and African-American women, are especially vulnerable.”
“People really think that [the primary reason for the gap] is just a bunch of individual decisions. Women choose to be English majors. Women aren’t choosing to go into computer science,” says Robbins. “In reality, women are in a position where those opportunities might not be welcoming for them. They’re discriminated against as they try to move up the ladder. People, I think, sometimes don’t want to face the hard facts that we have a lot of work to do as a society in order to make things more equal.”

  2. This is a stark reminder that women still do not enjoy all the liberties that men do.
