Beware of Blue Bell by Madeline Ibarra Period 2

Blue Bell ice cream has temporarily shut down one of its manufacturing plants because of the discovery of listeria contaminating several servings of ice cream that were made at the plant. Public health officials warned consumers Friday not to eat any Blue Bell-branded products made in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where the contaminated plant is located. The dirtied ice cream in particular is the 3-ounce servings of Blue Bell marked with the letters O, P, Q, R, S or T behind the coding date. The warning by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not affect other Blue Bell ice cream. The company is shutting down the Broken Arrow facility "out of an abundance of caution" to search for a possible cause of contamination. It is the third time Blue Bell has taken action in light of a listeria outbreak at a Kansas hospital that served the company's ice cream.
Suspiciously, this occurrence seems to be happening rather often as well as not being completely taken care of. i believe that the contaminated ice cream situation is much more common than we think, just because of the handling of dairy produces, and id over looked more often than not. For this instance to be taken with so much precaution, there was a report of an outbreak and people in danger to trigger it. It's just like any salmonella outbreak. It is not worrisome for the producer or consumer until there is enough odd activity to stir suspicion.

  1. This concerns me because I love Blue Bell ice cream. The relationship between consumer and producer has been stronger than it used to be. Upton Sinclair's, "The Jungle," helped close that gap, and Roosevelt's creation of the FDA helped close the gap.
