In Conneticut, beetles have been discovered within the pine trees. This could lead to environmental issues since the beetles end up ruining and killing the tree. There is also worry that if a majority of the beetles had survived the winter. This year's winter had been a record low and if the beetle's survived then that means that they are exceptionally hardy and will be hard to get rid off.
Although this situation isn't extreme quite yet it could grow in size. This is just a reminder that with all the technology we have today that we are still at the mercy of mother nature with things such as natural disasters and the Dust Bowl.

The same thing is happening in Colorado, where winters (as well as the climate overall) is getting warmer. Good synthesis to the Dust Bowl, though. Things could definitely start going that way if too many trees die off.
