Shut Down Affects More Than Just Your Pocket Juanita M. Soto 2nd Period

The government shutdown affects the lives of all Americans. It is really dumb that the governments whole reason for shutting down is over an argument over getting people more access to health care but in the process it's taking away the healthcare law that provides that healthcare. Not to mention making things worse than they were to begin with by not letting many food products, including the food going to children's schools, be inspected putting our health in danger. The food inspections aren't the only things getting cut from federal funding but also research labs for cancer research and patients waiting for medical treatment.

Even though it may seem unimportant at first, getting food checked and cleaned to make sure it is safe for human consumption is a big part of our daily lives. The FDA is responsible for monitoring around 80  to 85 percent of the countries food supply. Fruit, vegetables, and seafood fall under the FDA's domain and are being made, imported, and exported without any questions asked. This is really bad, men , women, fathers, and mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers, sons and daughters, nieces and nephews, our people are ALL in danger of getting really ill because of this lack of cooperation between members of our government.

The medical research has also been halted. Because of this inefficiency to compromise new clinical trials and studies have been completely neglected, not because of the unwillingness to find treatments but because there just simply is not enough funding by the government for it. Not only is this a MAJOR set back but it's really been a strain on the people who need medical treatments as soon as possible and their families. Some people can only get treatments by trials, without research happening there is no way that will happen.

The government shouldn't be arguing over a toy because eventually they will break it.
