Instagram affecting your appetite? Valerie Coahuilas
Recent studies have suggested that the popular act of posting up food on ones instagram has led to an interesting side effect on peoples appetite that is now being looked at. The study involved two groups of people who were each given a specific category of food to look at. (Ex. Salty and Sweet) The groups were given a long list of pictures of each of the types of foods and then given food of that same type to taste and rate. (People who saw pictures of salty food were given salty foods and same with sweets) The study showed that when first given pictures and then given the food, it actually decreased the appetite for the food and thus the ratings given by the people were lower scores. This means that when looking through instagram and running into multiple pictures of food, it could actually cause your appetite to die off and you may find yourself craving something else instead.

Interesting, I would think that this would have the opposite effect.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about you, but when I look at instagram pictures of food I become starved. But maybe if I were to actually have a taste of that same food then and there my appetite would differ. This is very interesting to know though and I think it is cool that someone thought to do a study on this topic.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny to read this because I feel like whenever I look at instagram pictures of food, I automatically start craving that food.
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting because after I see something on Instagram I start to want to get that food instantly

hmm, somewhat fascinating how easily our minds can be manipulated.
ReplyDeleteWho conducted this study? I'm not doubting its accuracy I'd just like to see where the article came from.
