NY state pays to reopen Statue of Liberty- Jessica Dicker
The Statue of Liberty reopened Sunday morning thanks to New York State funding the opening after being closed for 12 days due to the government shutdown. Similar situations have happened in Arizona and South Dakota with the Grand Canyon and Mt Rushmore. Many tourists and New Yorkers alike are grateful for the re opening. "The Statue of Liberty is more than just a tourism destination, more than just a creator of economy, a creator of jobs, it is probably the most profound symbol for freedom.
I'm so happy they are opening some great national monuments! It's sad that they are closing so many great things due to the shutdown, but maybe this will be kind of a push for congress to find a happy medium with all the madness that's going on.

National monuments are a symbol of our country, and I think it's great that the states are taking that into consideration.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy that the shutdown is affecting so many different facets of our society.
ReplyDeleteI never thought that the Statue even closed down- until I read this.
It's so great that they reopened it! There are so many people hustling everyday trying to make money from tourists, but that may be all they have. Suddenly closing a main source of revenue can really affect a community more than we realize. -Nana Johnson 2nd Period
