On Friday Indian children's rights advocate Kailash
Satyarthi and Pakistani teen Malala Yousafzai, brave advocate for girls
education, shared the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.
The two have both achieved great things in their
life, but they are both at different points in their life.
Malala, while only 17, and Kailash at 60, have come
together and reached this amazing point at the same time. Their
achievements are a bond between their two feuding countries.
To the Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee
this was an opportunity for unity
stating " The Nobel Committee
regards it as an important point for a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a
Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education and against extremism." Malala has expressed her view on the subject by inviting the leaders of Pakistan and India to the ceremony in December, adding that she wishes they will attend together.
This is a powerful story. These two people who have a wide age gap and disagreeing countries, both come together for their influence on the world today. They both have made huge impacts in their countries are both fighting oppression. Bringing these two figures of hope together can only strengthen the world. They both deserve this honor, and it is a very big deal having both of them together. I think the Committee did a wonderful job in deciding that this would be a joint award. It will only bring the two countries closer together, and hopefully lead them into a new world.
During the civil rights movement in America people of all ages came together to stand up for what is right. This is being done again, bringing together two countries to fight against oppression and make the world a better place.

This incredibly important and she mostly certainly deserves this, I'm very happy for her and can't wait to see what she does next.
ReplyDeleteI feel that Malala is a serious wake up call for many American students. Education is something that is too often taken for granted by American students. They drop out or go to school just to have something to do during the day. They scoff at the idea at learning while there are people around the world who are being tortured, raped and killed because they want to learn. Malala is a brave girl who faced these dangers everyday knowing that everyday she got on that van to go to school she was risking her life.
ReplyDeleteThat is bravery personified.
I think that Malala is a great feminist model. She illustrates that while many women in the western world enjoy many rights, there is still a huge problem of gender equality in most parts of the world. If a fifteen-year old girl can stand up against a patriarchal, oppressive regime alone, why can't we?
ReplyDeleteStories like these make me so happy and I hope to see more incredible things from both of these outstanding people. And especially Malala to be at such a young age is incredible.
ReplyDeleteThe Nobel Committee made a very significant, purposeful decision in choosing these two brilliant leaders to accept the award, and I could not be any happier with the result. As people of a global society, we need to be more accepting of all our cultures, regardless of political or social tensions. These two are fighting for crucial rights that should be accepted in all societies, and I hope they are able to spark a change in our world.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. She deserves more than this prize. It is cool to see this situation win this prize because she deserves it. Quentin Noble. P2
