Meningitis Strikes San Diego State- by Rachel Devine (6th)

This past week, an 18 year old student at San Diego State University passed away, switching the spotlight from ebola to meningitis (a severe infection of the brain and spinal cord.) Due to the highly contagious symptoms of meningitis, school officials are doing their best to notify as many of the students and staff as they can. Symptoms usually include fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, and vomiting; it is often mistaken as the flu. The University is devastated at their loss and will do everything they can to keep the situation from escalating.

It seems that illness and disease is all we ever hear about on the news nowadays. It's very concerning and my condolences go out to the student's family. In an abstract way, this can be compared to the Columbian Exchange because both situations dealt with the spread of diseases.
