Trump Birth Control Coverage News: Zoe Williams

Trump has created a rule that would allow employers to exclude free birth control from their health plans.   A nationwide hold was put on this as states continue to sue because the new burden of the provision would be put on them.  The ban was created to allow employers the option to exclude themselves for providing something that went against their beliefs due to religion and moral rules.

If you've read any of my blog posts before, you would be safe in assuming that I am pro-birth-control (as well as many other contraceptive methods).  Although I may completely disagree on all bases, I believe it is important to respect others and their beliefs, no matter what they are, if I wish to be respected as well.  This rule was created to ensure safety in all belief systems, but it really isn't doing that.  It is protecting the objectors, but not the objected.  If they get to be facilitated in their non-birth-control beliefs, then pro-birth-control believers should be equally as facilitated.  This is why I believe that employers should still supply non-cost birth control, because they don't have to use it or like it, but they have to respect it, just as much as the people using birth control have to respect them.  To relate this current issue to the Gilded Age we should look at class difference.  A big characteristic of the Gilded Age is a big class distinction.  We can connect this article to class distinction because it's really easy for Trump to take something away that his family can easily afford on their own, but there's a lot of lower class women that would be hurt by this because they couldn't afford it without their employers.

  1. I just think it is completely INCONSIDERATE, this makes me so mad. Birth Control isn't just the alleged killer of babies, it gives women the chance to have a say of what happens to their bodies. I hate to go here but if one of the women her raped were to get pregnant he probably would have screamed at her for not being on the pill. Hyprocrital men like him make me sick. I think as the leader of our country more than anyone you should have perspective and not ban what you don't agree with. THIS IS AMERICA!! -Kloe Rhoden
