The article talks about the most recent update in the Pewdiepie vs T-series battle, which is that pewdiepie has hit 80 million subscribers. Then the article goes on to talk about the larger issue that this represents to many people. That youtube is no longer “you”tube and that they are starting to pander to big corporations not to the viewers.
This is during a time where many people feel that in many aspects of their life corporations take precedence over them. It was mostly written to fans of pewdiepie for an update. It was written by Anthony Cuthburtson and any bias he has does not affect the article. This is important because not only is it funny it also has a larger impact of “sticking it to the corporations” this relates to the guiled age because many people back then also felt like corporations were being prioritized.
I’m glad that pewdiepie is still putting up a fight with T-series. Though it is a flawless meme, in a way it really is the battle between youtube’s initial purpose of a small newgrounds-like website that allows users to create videos for fun and gain a following vs. the corrupted, corporatized youtube we now know today. It’s nice to see everyone still supporting pewds in this battle, and it’s good to know that an independent youtuber can still stay on top while a full-blown company inches at his heels. I am so proud of this community
