Teachers in Los Angeles are planning to go on strike today. There were strikes in West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Colorado. Los Angeles is the country's second-largest school district, and now they're doing it. The teachers are demanding smaller class sizes, more nurses, librarians, and counselors, and more money. Last week, they couldn't agree on a deal. This would be the first teacher strike there in 30 years.
This relates to the Gilded Age, in which the United States' industrial economy grew in the late 1800s, which caused serious conflict. The Homestead Strike (Carnegie Steel) and the Pullman Strike of 1894 (Pullman sleeping car manufacturing company) were both prevalent strikes of the Gilded Age.
