Over 32000 teachers walked off the job in the nation's second largest school district due to Union negotiations asking for the school district to hire more teachers and give a pay raise.
According to my mother, from her experiance working as a music educator in LA Unified school district, the schools were massively understaffed with as many as 40 children being crammed into a single classroom. She would also teach at over 10 schools a week, one in the morning and one in the afternoon every day, making it near impossible to have an impactful relationship with a student.
This event is most similar to the Wisconsin teacher strike in 2011, where teachers protested for over five months. The Wisconsin strike ended unsuccessfully, but I have hope that the LA strike will bring about change in LA Unified.

The need for higher pay for teachers has been going on for a long time so when is the change going to happen.
