LA teacher protest -Sophie Knox

Summary: In the Los Angeles Unified District, over 30,000 teachers went on strike today to protest to keep the class size low and better working conditions. On January 11, the union wrote a proposal saying that their demands would be raising teachers pay up 6%, keeping the maximum class size the same, adding more nurses, libraries, and counselors to schools. The union claims that the district is hoarding 1.8 billion dollars and could easily pay for everything they need. Although the district said that classes would still be operational during the strike, over 1/3 of the students did not show up for school.
Analysis: Personally, I think the article is choppy and doesn’t give a clear direction on where its heading. This article relates to other teacher strikes that have happened in West Virginia and Oklahoma. I am pretty pessimistic when it comes to strikes, but I believe teacher strikes are the most successful. This also relates to the Gilded Age because there was a rising of unions to protest their companies.
