Gillette addresses 'toxic masculinity' in new ad campaign - cris sanchez

this article was released January 14th, 2019 within this minor case, compared to many, involving men "masculinity." exhibit A from an anonymous source, "The result is that as an adult he never talked about his feelings, never told his family members he loved them, etc. When something would happen to me as a kid - if I got hurt, or got lost, he would yell at me for ‘getting' myself hurt." several men live in the constant fear of their own fathers/father figures due to the aged concept of "be tough, don't cry, etc." Given by society standards deriving from many men having to be the 'providers.' exhibit B, "In his 60s and 70's, he's learned to talk more, to open up about things he feels other than anger", a man in his 60-70s barely learning communication. It says enough that the idea of "daddy's girl" and "mommas boy" now as a child its seen that a little girl is her fathers weak spot, because they can provide a soft side that isn't socially acceptable to show, their son is now allowed to be emotionally expressive to his mother. a mother is a different form of care. the campaign states ,"Traditional masculinity ideology has been shown to limit males’ psychological development, constrain their behavior, result in gender role strain and gender role conflict and negatively influence mental health and physical health", if one campaign can admit to the situation known as 'toxic masculinity' also giving its own insight while trying to change it then I'd say its fair and revolutionary to the future parenting style.

  1. As a part of the Gillette company I can proudly say that yes we addressed toxic masculinity and yes we are progressive lol we truly are the best a man can get

  2. I think that it is great that this company is highlighting this issue. I agree that it is important that all people, regardless of gender, feel that they are free to express their emotions and not have to hide them. I hope more companies will follow suit with future campaigns to support this.

  3. I completely agree, I believe anyone should be able to express there feelings no matter their gender. Im glad that people are making an effort to do this and I hope more companies follow. -Lesly Marquez

  4. Toxic masculinity seems to be overlooked by a lot of people, even other men, when it really is a big issue and stops psychological growth in young boys. I'm glad Gillette did this and brought more attention to this issue.

  6. Emma Burkey: This is a great way to start the conversation about toxic masculinity and the parenting styles that cause it. I hope that this article reaches to places all over the United States so that males can feel comfortable talking about it.

  7. I think that one way to help this situation is what Emma said,"parenting styles". When men teach their boys that it is okay to show their emotions then maybe this situation could get better.

  8. I have thought about this issue a lot and how it applies to Booker T. At our school, it seems like everyone is allowed to be themselves and it's great. But I have noticed that if a guy acts a little more feminine, he is instantly labeled as gay, or at least bi. We say these things about toxic masculinity, but let's also check ourselves, because we might be contributing to it without realizing it. If a guy feels like he has to be manly all the time to not be considered gay, that's toxic. Yes, parents can make a huge difference in helping their sons express their feelings, but we have to start changing our mindsets as well. Hopefully more people can begin to do that by reading this article.

  10. I saw a lot of people mad at this ad. In my opinion, it's great that a company like gillette is addressing this issue that no one usually talks about.

  11. I feel it is so distasteful that there are those willing to boycott Gillete simply because of this ad. I believe it delivers a very strong message, as it addresses yet another social construction of gender and that it is possible to challenge ourselves to stand up for everyone’s right to be exactly who they want to be.
