This article was last updated on January 11, 2019 by Mallory Hughes and it states that the Canadian Parliament has made plans to add over 1 million new residents in the next 3 years. They have already had more than 286,000 permanent residents in 2017 and are predicting to have more and more in the years to come. The immigrants will help Canada's "aging population and declining birth rate while growing its labor force", they are also willing to offer protection to refugees. The U.S, on the other hand wants the opposite of this, which is causing a lot of problems today.
The Gilded Age was about a lot of things, including immigration and many people came for economic opportunities, like the Chinese people who were not welcomed and it was an act for them to leave the U.S.(Chinese Exclusion Act). I feel like this is similar to what is happening now with many immigrants. Also, I understand that Canada may not have much to do with this but I wanted to compare and contrast the government's political views in the U.S with theirs.
This is so exciting!
