Cyber-bullying is one of the leading causes of teen suicide. On March 14, an 11-year-old boy from Michigan, Tysen Benz, attempted suicide. Benz's mother, Katrina Goss believes that a prank made by his 13-year-old girlfriend on social media. His girlfriend faked her death on the internet and sparked a panic among her friends and Tysen. Goss claimed that Tysen was a very happy child who was charismatic before he met his new girlfriend. She said that she took advantage of him since they met.Benz's girlfriend is facing charges of "Malicious use and Computer-Using to Commit a Crime".
I'm glad that the mother has been public and creating awareness during this hard time. The extent that cyber-bulling has on kids and teens is tremendous and needs to be contained. Cruel pranks like this one can lead to a devastating aftermath. Justice is being served and hopeful raises awareness to prevent incidents such as this one from occurring again.

That's so horrible! People need to help support their friends and family if they are going through these hard times.
ReplyDeleteI wish that people could get it through their heads that using the internet as a way to make jokes or pranks because first of all, its just indecent and secondly, you never know how people will react
ReplyDeleteCyber bullying is a really damaging way to bully someone. Some people are heartless and don't understand the consequences of certain actions. I hope they get justice.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate that he felt the need to do this to himself. The Girl probably didn't realize what she was doing.
