Initially, a 10 year old boy with autism was arrested in Florida. He was cuffed and taken away while his mother astonishingly video taped the whole scene. Both the mother and her son had no idea why he was being arrested. It was later found out that the boy was placed in an adult jail house, and had to sit in the jail room with convicted adults for hours, not having a clue why. John was accused of abusing a teaching assistant; kicking, punching, and stretching her. He was also accused of threatening to kill this assistant.
However, the flaw to this story is the oblivious administrators and police to a blatant mental issue. Mental illnesses need to be addressed. Someone who simply has an entirely different brain and thought-process will not process conflict the same way a non- mentally ill child would. Although the allegations are very serious, he should not be taken away like that in height of his illness.
This is similar to how some people will get thrown in prison, but they have a mental illness. Instead of being given the proper help and care they need, they are treated as if they contain no real illness.
People with mental illness should be placed in a separate facility even though there actions can be harmful.
